In this post we will consider the departure from Aristotelian Scholasticism of Francis Bacon (1561-1626), one of the first of the many important thinkers which would come out of the British Isles. He would come to be regarded as “Newton’s Prophet” and even today his arguments, which we shall consider, are taken to be a strong defense of what is sometimes today derided as scientism. (more…)
